As much as we try, we can't be experts in everything, especially with the rapid changes and advancements in educational technology. And when we attend professional development sessions to learn, we often sit and wish we had more time to be the experts and be able to share that learning with our colleagues. Such is the dilemma of many technology coaches, professional developers, technology trainers, or integration specialists (we have so many different titles!)
This year, I tried a novel idea... why not exchange professional development services? You come and present a workshop or session for my district, and I will come and present one for you. Especially with tight budgets and limited funding these days, I was hoping this arrangement would bring the "mountain to Mohammed" -- more or less. So, I contacted a few colleagues, and was delighted to be able set up some wonderful sessions for our teachers -- of course, in exchange for me presenting to other schools!
It has really worked out great for us so far. Dr. Hank Thiele has enlightened us on the wonders of text visualization, and our plans for the remainder of the year include "exchanges" with Lucy Gray, who will be coming to help us master Google, Anne Truger who will show us how to reach all learners using the UDL model, and Carol Broos, who will show us the wonders of podcasting.
I thought perhaps that this "group" in the ICE Ning might be a good place to connect with our peers, and provide a forum for sharing our knowledge and skills. If you have expertise you would like to exchange, or a request for topics that others may be able to bring to you, please feel free to respond to this discussion with details. Happy learning!!
