Has anyone used SL in a K-12 classroom? How? I am a graduate student in the instructional technology department at NIU. I am currently enrolled in a class that meets in SL, and I am curious how it is being (or might be) used in an elementary, junior high, or high school.

To use SL with students between 13-18 you need to get involved with a project on the Teen Grid. There are contacts you can make to get more information. The main grid is for over 18 only. The teen grid is totally separate. An adult can only get on teen grid after a security check and can only stay in the one project area I am told. I have also heard there are ways to host a SL type simulation on your own server. I personally have not been on teen grid, but I know others who have been and can help connect you with people who are working on the teen grid. The students i work with are too young for the teen grid.
I have seen SL used to talk with others that have a different world language. There is also a place that is about science. I think it is called biosphere.
Other thoughts that I had--- Hold discussion about various world problems and find out different view points?
