I love using Ning. I have a ning accounts for my family and for my school's alumni.
I also love SqoolTools Moodle and would love to hear of some great ways it is being used in classrooms.
I experienced a group of high school students logging into SqoolTools for the first time. They were thrilled that they would be able to use chat.......legally! :)
After having a good time exploring the chat and message areas, they moved on to exploring an interactive site, then took a short quiz over what they learned on the site.
